Job Description
The Sr. Tax Coordinator is a senior-level tax professional responsible for managing complex sales and use tax compliance activities across multiple jurisdictions. This role serves as a subject-matter expert, ensuring accurate tax reporting, supporting audits, and providing guidance on taxability, exemptions, and process improvements. The position works cross-functionally with Finance, Accounting, and Operations to maintain compliance and reduce tax risk.
Key Responsibilities- Research and interpret sales and use tax laws, regulations, and rulings to ensure compliance
- Serve as a point of escalation for complex taxability issues, nexus determinations, and exemption analysis
- Assist with sales tax audits, including document preparation, auditor communication, and issue resolution
- Review and maintain exemption certificates; ensure proper documentation and compliance
- Reconcile tax accounts, identify discrepancies, and resolve variances
- Assist with system implementations, tax engine configuration, and ongoing maintenance (e.g., ERP or tax automation tools)
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and assess impact on the business
- Develop and document tax processes, controls, and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to junior tax staff
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field (required)
- CPA, CMI, or other relevant tax certification (preferred)
- 5+ years of sales and use tax experience, preferably in a multi-state environment
- Strong knowledge of U.S. sales and use tax laws and compliance requirements
- Experience assisting with Sales tax audits and interacting with tax authorities
- Proficiency tax software (e.g. Vertex)
- Advanced Excel skills; ability to analyze large data sets
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in a corporate or shared services environment
- Exposure to indirect tax planning and process automation
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $45,000-$65,000 plus medical, dental, vision benefits starting day 1, 401k, and PTO. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
