Position Summary
Hybrid:
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The Accounts Payable Accountant applies knowledge of banking, accounting, business practices, fraud prevention, internal and external communications, administration and analysis in a multi‑faceted departmental unit. Duties include customer service, reconciliation, special ad hoc projects, policy creation, interpretation, and implementation as well as security information management.
- Reconcile bank accounts and liability accounts under Accounts Payable control.
- Execute the 1099 process and analyze IRS B‑notices, producing notices to vendors as required.
- Oversee pay cycles, ACH bank confirmations, pay‐cycle processing, and recalls of ACH payments made in error within a five‑day window.
- Contact vendors paid in error to recover funds and communicate the master pay‑cycle schedule.
- Analyze system credits and respond to PRGX inquiries; assist the Voucher Team Supervisor with outstanding credits.
- Support the campus voucher team during peak seasons, vacations, and provide backup for the voucher supervisor by reviewing campus vouchers over $5,000 and reviewing bi‑weekly wire pay cycles.
- Act as the primary contact for the virtual card system, enrolling new vendors in Bank of America Works, and reconciling the monthly bank statement for virtual card activity and facilitating payment for the statement balance.

Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsMid‑career with a Master’s and 1–2 years experience; or Bachelor’s and 2–4 years experience.
Required Qualifications , Competencies, and Experience- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
- Experience with complex reconciliations utilizing multiple software programs and financial management and analysis metrics.
- MBA with Accounting or Finance concentration preferred.
- Recent wire and ACH transfer and foreign banking experience.
- Experience with People Soft/UNC‑CH systems.
