Description Of Work

Salary Range: $37,782 – $66,120.

This position is located at Piedmont Correctional Institution in Salisbury, N.C. (Rowan County), a medium male prison facility housing 800 inmates. The role involves first‑line supervision of Correctional Officer IIs in medium‑custody facilities or institutions, increasing custody and security coverage. Employees oversee officer activities, performance, and ensure the custody, security, and welfare of inmates are maintained. They arrange work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures, and enforce rules and regulations according to policy.

Positions may serve as Officer‑in‑Charge (OIC) and may supervise inmates in restrictive housing. Responsibilities include reporting directly to a Correctional Lieutenant II and/or the Correctional Assistant Superintendent.

Position Details

This is a full‑time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences
  • This is an INTERNAL POSTING open ONLY for current employees of the NC Department of Adult Correction.
  • This is an anticipated vacancy expected to be available on 12/11/25.
Management Preferences
  • Thorough knowledge of the overall operation of correctional facilities and applicable policies.
  • Thorough knowledge of disciplinary procedures and techniques appropriate for persons under criminal confinement.
  • Thorough knowledge of procedures, rules, and regulations associated with the control and management of inmates, and correctional methods, techniques, practices, and procedures.
  • Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.
Necessary Special Qualifications

Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Minimum Education and Experience

High School or GED diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years of experience as a Correctional Officer II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
