** Description of Work
** This posting is for an anticipated vacancy available on August 1, 2026, and is open only to employees of the Department of Adult Correction. This position is assigned to DAC Special Operations and Intelligence Unit (SOIU) and is a home-as-duty position.
This position reports directly to the Special Operations Investigative Supervisor in Extradition. The primary duty of this position will be to extradite offenders that have been requested by NCDAC, counties, and Interstate agreement detainers. This position will supervise a caseload of offenders who have been deemed absconders and have been placed on probation by the courts or who are under a period of parole or post release supervision.
Employee will carry a caseload which will contain all risk offenders. The Extradition PPO will operate with discretion, competence, and judgement in matters of statutory interpretation, policies, and procedures. The PPO will be an expert in all aspects of fugitive retrieval, beginning with notification of capture and ending with after-action reporting to assist and enhance future fugitive extradition operations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Review and coordinate extradition trips as assignments are received
- Review all instructions and documents for clarity concerning procedures, relative timelines, travel, and custody arrangements
- Plan routes and secure accommodations taking into consideration all matters of public safety to ensure the safe extradition of the fugitive
- Communicate directly with holding facilities throughout the United States to coordinate the successful retrieval of assigned fugitives
- Completing thorough searches of the offenders to ensure the safety of the offender, the public and the transporting staff
Note:
- This position requires extensive overnight travel
- This position must be able to work independently in precarious situations
- This position must be able to complete Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards including firearms, self-defense, and other required training
