the township of east brunswick is accepting applications for the regular, full-time position of zoning officer in the department of planning & engineering. Under the general supervision of the director of planning and engineering, the zoning officer will serve as an administrative officer for the zoning board.
responsibilities- performing technical and professional work in the interpretation, drafting, and enforcement of township zoning laws, ordinances, rules, master plan elements, and regulations.
- reviewing and signing off on building permits for zoning compliance and licenses for the clerk’s office.
- issuing zoning permits for fences, sheds, impervious surfaces, and signs.
- responding to letters of intent and opra requests.
- handling inquiries from the public on development and zoning matters.
- attending evening zoning board meetings.

must be knowledgeable of: the principles, practices, and techniques of municipal zoning, site planning, and land use procedures.
must be knowledgeable of: the local, state, and federal laws and other regulations governing land use and zoning.
must be knowledgeable of: the legal procedures related to the enforcement of zoning laws and ordinances.
must have the ability to- communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with township personnel and the public.
- provide excellent communication and conflict resolution skills to assist the public in a courteous and effective manner.
- two years of municipal zoning experience for applicants with a master’s degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, environmental planning or related field.
- or four years of municipal zoning experience for applicants with a bachelor’s degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, or related field.
the township reserves the right to hire prior to the closing of the submission of applications.
