OBGYN Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Per Diem with Standing Weekly Shift Position Summary

The OBGYN Diagnostic Medical Sonographer supports physicians and advanced practice providers in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. This role performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures, supports clinical workflow, and contributes to efficient patient flow and care coordination in a professional, respectful, and collaborative clinical environment.

The Sonographer promotes patient safety, clinical excellence, and service standards that prioritize patient satisfaction and quality outcomes.

This position is primarily per diem and requires flexibility to support operational needs. In addition, the role includes a standing weekly shift every Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Specialty Focus:
Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN)

This role specializes in obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound imaging, including but not limited to:

  • First, second, and third trimester obstetric imaging.
  • Fetal growth and anatomy assessments.
  • Early pregnancy evaluation and viability studies.
  • Pelvic ultrasound, including transabdominal and transvaginal imaging.
  • Evaluation of gynecologic structures and conditions.
  • Support of providers in prenatal care management and women’s health diagnostics.

The Sonographer must demonstrate knowledge of current OBGYN imaging protocols, best practices, and safety standards, and maintain competency in specialty-specific technology and clinical workflows.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Imaging & Patient Care
  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures in accordance with physician orders, accepted protocols, and professional standards.
  • Report findings with minimal assistance.
  • Review patient history, medical records, and prior imaging to confirm exam appropriateness and optimize imaging quality.
  • Prepare examination rooms, equipment, and supplies based on appointment type and clinical need.
  • Educate and prepare patients for procedures to ensure cooperation, comfort, and optimal diagnostic results.
  • Ensure proper image acquisition, labeling, documentation, and timely upload of completed studies into the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Maintain strict adherence to patient identification and safety protocols.
Equipment & Department Operations
  • Must have experience in operating GE Voluson ultrasound equipment in accordance with safety and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Perform routine quality control checks and report equipment concerns promptly.
  • Maintain ultrasound equipment in proper operating condition and coordinate service when needed.
  • Maintain clean, organized examination rooms and work areas.
  • Monitor, order, and stock ultrasound supplies.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate and complete records, reports, and departmental files.
  • Protect patient privacy and maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Follow all infection control, OSHA, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Participate in required compliance, safety, and clinical training.
Care Coordination & Team Collaboration
  • Participate in daily clinical huddles to anticipate patient needs and support provider workflow.
  • Assist with care coordination by ensuring ordered imaging, tests, and follow‑up services are completed, documented, and communicated appropriately.
  • Respond to provider and patient requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with front desk staff, clinical team members, referral coordinators, and medical records personnel to support patient flow and continuity of care.
Quality Improvement & Professional Practice
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, data collection, and process improvement efforts.
  • Maintain current knowledge of evidence‑based practice standards, including guidelines published by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and implement approved changes.
  • Support practice‑wide clinical quality initiatives and performance improvement activities.
  • Document workflows and participate in process standardization when requested.
Organizational Participation
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and required training sessions.
