The Buyer will support the organization by ensuring the on-going availability of material and components to meet project requirements. The Buyer is accountable for component cost, quality, and delivery requirements supporting needs of the engineering, design, and manufacturing environment. Experience in a manufacturing environment with the ability to read drawings and specifications for machining, fabrication, and assembly is required. Key for success in this position is the ability to evaluate supplier capabilities and match best suppliers with best products.
The Buyer will use qualitative and quantitative analysis of data to maintain an overall view of cost, schedule, and quality. The Buyer represents Bühler interests globally for key supplier relationships, and internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistency with corporate guidelines and business strategies.
- Manage commodities and competitive sources of supply
- Plan, prioritize, and manage multiple work assignments using strong organizational skills
- Negotiate with suppliers on cost, quality, and lead-time to obtain the maximum value for the company
- Develop, implement, and drive procurement strategies to meet cost savings targets
- Perform regular performance reviews with key suppliers to drive continuous improvements
- Ensure commercial, legal, and contractual compliance in all procurement transactions
- Perform all associated detailed work commensurate with the position, including:
- Understand requirements for items to be purchased
- Confer with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule
- Prepare and submit purchase orders
- Track all orders to ensure timely and accurate delivery
- Contact vendors with discrepancies on quantity and quality to resolve issues
- Interface with all departments to resolve issues with purchased items
- Manage inventory
- Generate monthly forecasts to ensure long lead time material is available when needed
- Reconcile billing summaries from main vendors/suppliers
- Support and provide backup and assistance to other buyers as needed
- Monitor the suppliers' quality, cost, and delivery performance on a regular basis
- In the event of major disruption with significant effect upon delivery, quality or availability, direct necessary actions with the supplier in collaboration with project managers or design team to reduce the impact
- Evaluate the status of all purchased components/materials for active projects to prioritize and communicate issues with the project teams, other buyers, and managers
- Experience in machining or fabrication
- Ability to read and interpret component part drawings and specifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Experience in an SAP or ERP environment a plus
- High level of intellectual curiosity, self‑motivation, ownership, sense of urgency, and positive engagement
- Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (basic skills in Excel and Word)
