Position: UTILITIES PROJECT MANAGER

More than just completing projects, our project managers must grasp how each initiative contributes to achieving Cary's broader goals.

Our project managers are the conductors of a symphony of initiatives, seamlessly navigating between projects, adapting on the fly, and embracing change with agility. While the primary focus revolves around utility infrastructure, there's potential for exciting opportunities to contribute to the design and construction of various public infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate is a master communicator, capable of delivering Cary's message across diverse audiences, including citizens, design professionals, contractors, and elected officials. Dependability is a non-negotiable trait, as the right candidate should require limited direction, take ownership of responsibilities, and see tasks through to completion. As a utility project manager, the ability to break down large, complex projects with multiple stakeholders into manageable pieces to achieve mutually determined goals is paramount.

Salary Details:

Anticipated Hiring Range:

$88,254- $125,340
* * Upper range intended for candidates with strong qualifications and direct, relevant utility experience.

Full Salary Ranges
- * Project Manager Salary Range: $88,254 - $145,641

* Senior Project Manager Salary Range (Internal Promotion Only): $97,323 - $160,555

The Project Manager role serves as the initial step within Cary's Project Management career pathway. Upon promotion to Senior Project Manager, there is a base pay increase alongside enhanced earning potential.

It's important to note that the position of Senior Project Manager is reserved for internal candidates and is contingent upon professional engineer licensure and performance benchmarks. External applicants cannot be considered for Senior Project Manager role.  It is listed to illustrate one of many ways Project Managers can advance their careers at Cary.

Performs (or oversees) project management, design and construction administration of various infrastructure projects with an emphasis on water and wastewater pipeline installation and rehabilitation, pump stations, storage tanks and treatment facilities;

Manages project budgets; prepares cost estimates and monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget, including payments and change orders;

Prepares long-term project schedules; monitors progress of project in meeting established schedules;

Reviews all construction plans and related documents (soil reports, engineering calculations, etc.) for compliance with Town Standard Specifications and Details, adopted technical codes, zoning ordinances, state and federal regulations, etc.; works with architects and engineers to make required corrections;
