The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.
Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!
This position reports to a Correctional Program Supervisor in a multi-custody male correctional facility and provides case management services to an assigned case load. Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Performing regular periodic classification reviews, needs assessments, plans, job assignments, program referrals and regular scheduled one-on-one contact for the purposes of correctional and/or motivational counseling.
- Providing transitional information, assisting with housing and recommendations for the classification upon offender review and assisting with onsite activities.
- Communicating effectively with other staff, offenders, and the general public.
- Working under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders, who can become physically violent and verbally abusive, and being capable of defending oneself against attack.
- Performing crisis interventions to include suicide prevention.
- Preparing written reports which accurately reflect data reviewed by various sources and reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating various documents and behavior data gathered from interviews, written documentation, and personal observation.
- This is a certified position and employees may be subject to assist in any certified capacity as needed.
(Salary Range: $35,984 - $62,971)

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.

Central Prison
Central Prison in Raleigh, NC has been in continuous service since 1884. It serves as the admission point into prison for adult male felons sentenced to 20 years or more and is the main medical and mental health center for male offenders. It also houses special populations, including death row and safe-keepers. While security requires that certain offenders remain in their cells, there are more than 260 offender job assignments that include working in the kitchen, laundry or canteen.
Offenders also work as barbers, janitors and clerks. Offenders can attend substance abuse group therapy meetings, Bible studies or worship services.
