Description Of WorkSalary range: $37,377.00 - $65,408.00

This is an INTERNAL POSTING open ONLY for current employees of the NC Department of Adult Correction.
Work in this class involves first-line supervision to Correctional Officer I’s in minimum‑custody facilities, increasing the custody and security coverage. Positions assign lower‑level custody staff to a particular area or post. Employees oversee officer activities and performance and ensure that the custody, security and welfare of inmates is maintained. Employees arrange work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
Positions may at times be the highest‑ranking custody staff on the grounds or the Officer‑in‑Charge (OIC). Positions report to a Correctional Lieutenant I and/or a Correctional Assistant Superintendent.
This position is located at Lincoln Correctional Center, Lincoln County, minimum custody facility.
Management PreferencesThorough knowledge of the overall operation of correctional facilities; and applicable policies.
Thorough knowledge of procedures, rules, and regulations associated with the control and management of inmates, and of correctional methods, techniques, practices, and procedures.
- Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.
Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
This is a full‑time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.
Note To Current State EmployeesThe salary grade for this position is NC07
. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Minimum Education And ExperienceHigh School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a correctional officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
