Position

Advanced Practice Provider – Duke MFM (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant)

Overview

The Private Diagnostic Clinic (PDC) of Duke Health is a world‑class, multi‑specialty physician practice comprising over 140 clinics throughout North Carolina. Key Locations

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology – Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, primarily at Duke Perinatal Consultants of Cary, Raleigh and Duke Perinatal Consultants of Durham.

Responsibilities
  • Collect patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record data in the patient’s medical record; write progress notes; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings; obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care; and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients.
  • Order, schedule, and review laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  • Perform the new obstetric exam, identify complications in pregnancy, conduct fetal heart rate assessment, non‑stress test interpretation, and pelvic exams for ante‑partum and labor assessment.
  • Initiate plans of care, diagnostic testing, laboratory interpretation, and treatment plans tailored to each patient’s medical and surgical history; prescribe necessary treatments and services; report progress to the collaborating physician and maintain a record of each patient’s progress.
  • Provide patient education relating to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care.
  • Collaborate with other NP/PAs to ensure clinic and telephone triage coverage.
  • Provide gynecological care such as family‑planning counseling, IUD/Nexplanon placement and removal, and screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections.
  • Perform additional essential job functions as directed by the supervising physician.

Preference for applicants with 2+ years of Women’s Health APP experience, specifically in High‑Risk Obstetrics.

Qualifications
  • PA:
    Must be licensed by the North Carolina Medical Board and board‑certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • NP:
    Must hold a current or compact RN license in North Carolina and be approved to practice by the Board of Nursing; must be board‑certified from a national certifying board in the appropriate patient focus. Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Both:
    Master’s degree or higher required. Must demonstrate and maintain credentialing and licensing requirements of the Private Diagnostic Clinic and Duke Health, including current DEA licensure.
