Clinical Nurse II - Duke Otolaryngology Cary
Job Location: 100 Duke Health Cary Pl, Cary, NC 27519
Job Summary: We are seeking a Clinical Nurse II to be an integral member of the healthcare team in Duke Otolaryngology Cary. The successful candidate will provide direct and indirect care to patients, perform nursing duties in both clinical and administrative settings, and support ENT related procedures.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Room patients and intake, including medication verification, history taking, and vital signs.
- Complete orders as per provider:
- Suture/Staple removal
- Medication preparation and administration
- Specimen collection
- Delegate tasks and supervise activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers
- Complete orders as per provider:
- Set-up and assist with various ENT related procedures.
- Perform high‑level disinfection and instrument sterilization.
- Manage Team Inbasket messages:
- Call patients with results
- Obtain cardiac clearance for surgical procedures
- Assist with FMLA/Disability and work excuse processing and Provider Inbasket management
- Review future clinic schedules, communicate with patients for upcoming appointments and procedures, and gather necessary imaging.
- Assist with triage coverage when needed, including answering calls, handling inbasket messages, processing medication refills, and prior authorizations.
- Clean and stock rooms; monitor supply and medication expiration dates; unbox ordered supplies and confirm inventory.
- Provide preoperative/postoperative education: deliver educational materials, review pre‑op instructions, and ensure patient understanding of postoperative care and recovery expectations.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein set by leadership team.
- Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or a Nursing Diploma program. Exception:
Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014, and April 11, 2021, without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing are expected to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within seven years of their start date. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014, are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification. - Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. If the candidate has another compact state RN license, NC state licensure must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- BLS required.
The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday‑Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
