Position Summary
Registered Nurse (S)
Murdoch Developmental Center (MDC) in Butner is recruiting for a Registered Nurse to serve the 24-bed Infirmary. The Infirmary provides 24‑hour nursing care for acute illnesses and end‑of‑life care, emergency response, post‑shift assessment of campus employee injuries, and administrative reporting of events as required by policy.
All MCP employees are designated as essential during adverse weather and emergency events.
Responsibilities- Provide 24‑hour nursing care for patients in the Infirmary.
- Respond to emergencies and deliver professional nursing coverage after duty.
- Conduct assessment and treatment of employee injuries after hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Ensure administrative staff are informed of events per policy.
- Maintain mandatory presence during adverse weather events.
- Licensed Registered Nurse in North Carolina or a participating Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
- Successful candidate must pass Healthcare Provider CPR and Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) written and physical requirements.
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
- Preferred experience in acute care and end‑of‑life settings.
- Familiarity with campus injury assessment and reporting protocols.
Recruitment range: $70,000.00 – $85,000.00. A sign‑on bonus of $10,000 may be offered, contingent on 2025‑2026 budget approval.
Full‑time position eligible for the state benefits package: health insurance, paid sick/vacation/holidays, retirement, and additional leave options.
Work Schedule- 1st shift: 6:30 am‑3 pm (10% weekend premium)
- 2nd shift: 2:30 pm‑11 pm (15% weekday, 25% weekend premium)
- 3rd shift: 10:45 pm‑6:45 am (20% weekday, 30% weekend premium)
- Typical 36/48 hour weekly rotation: two‑week cycle; adjustments as needed.
- Eligible for new, permanent full‑time or part‑time hires working 30‑40 hours per week.
- Ineligible if held a North Carolina state government position (including judiciary or UNC system) within last 12 months.
- Ineligible if previously received a sign‑on bonus from any state agency.
- Ineligible if DHHS paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
MDC serves 25 counties in central NC, providing residential services and supports for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, complex behavioral challenges, and/or medical conditions. MDC supports adults and also operates statewide programs for children and adolescents.
Minimum Education and ExperienceLicensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
