Position: Registered Nurse New Graduate RN Duke University Hospital 6300 Surgical Oncology

Job Summary

As a Clinical Nurse (RN) on the 6300 Surgical Oncology unit at Duke University Hospital, you will provide patient‑centred, whole‑person care for patients who have undergone surgery for a cancer diagnosis. The unit is a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment that cares for intermediate and step‑down level patients across four services:
Gynecology Oncology, Urology, Plastic Surgery, and Ear, Nose & Throat.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process (assess, plan, implement, evaluate) for patients under physician orders and established policies.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise other licensed and unlicensed caregivers; act as a team leader or charge nurse as assigned.
  • Assist nursing personnel in delivering care and support other staff and formal learners.
  • Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.
  • Participate in professional development, maintain required competencies, and identify learning needs.
  • Act as a preceptor and support the development of other staff and learners.
  • Identify and participate in clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and activities.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited BSN or Associate’s Degree in Nursing (or Nursing Diploma) program.
  • Current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina; BLS required.
  • Registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree must enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of start date and complete the program within five years.
