The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies, responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation, as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws.

Nurse Supervisor I is responsible for ensuring professional nursing care and treatment is afforded to patients within medical policies, protocols and consistent with Board of Nursing requirements.

• Direct supervision of nursing staff, including scheduling, assignments, orientation, performance improvement evaluations, and clinical competency evaluations.
• Conduct needs assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans, and provide patient care and education to offenders.
• Ensure all policies and procedures are followed and submit short- and long-term goals to leadership for review and approval.
• Perform administrative duties such as planning, organizing, and managing daily operations, quality assurance, human resource management functions, and staff development.
• Develop and maintain effective communication and work relationships with physicians, upper management healthcare personnel, patients, families, agencies, and others.
• Identify and address quality monitoring and performance improvement issues for the facility.
• Work any schedule required to ensure medical operational needs are met at the facility level.

Minimum qualifications are the education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Preferred skills include:

• Documented knowledge of professional nursing, techniques, and practices.
• Documented knowledge in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
• Documented knowledge of medications and carrying out prescribed treatments.
• Documented knowledge of management and supervisory practices/procedures.
• Documented knowledge of maintaining records and reports.
