The Operations Specialist plays a key role in Cary Oil’s fuel operations, coordinating the procurement, pricing, and delivery of fuel and fuel products to business and industrial customers. This position partners with carriers, internal teams, and customers to ensure orders are fulfilled accurately, priced competitively, and delivered on time, while building strong, lasting customer relationships that support business growth.
Order Processing & Carrier Coordination |Manages order fulfillment and carrier communication
- Receives customer orders for fuel and fuel products by telephone or email and coordinates procurement and delivery to business and industrial locations
- Quotes pricing, terms, and delivery times to existing customers for delivery of product to their locations
- Communicates confirmed orders to carriers for shipment
- Determines the appropriate carrier for order fulfillment based on knowledge of carrier rates, availability, reliability, and dependability
- Resolves service and rate disputes between carriers and the company, or between carriers and company customers
- Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries
Customer & Business Development |Builds relationships and grows the customer base
- Overcomes technical and business objections of prospective customers
- Builds and maintains customer relationships
- Works with outside sales staff to keep account activities and literature up to date
Requirements
Education
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; equivalent work experience may be considered.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a petroleum support, wholesale fuels, or marketing environment preferred
- Experience working with carriers, order fulfillment, and customer-facing pricing helpful
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and general internet applications
- Mathematical and reading skills sufficient to calculate figures and interpret invoices and related documents
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with strong telephone etiquette
- Strong customer service, organizational, and time-management skills
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to learn and effectively utilize in-house software programs
