Position
Correctional Captain II (S) – Position Number – Grade NC11.
Responsibility SummaryReporting to the Associate Warden for Custody, this position provides supervision of subordinate staff, is responsible for the custody and security of the facility, and the safety of the general public.
- Ensure that all custody staff assigned to the facility are physically and mentally capable of assuming a duty post.
- Provide daily inspections of offender living, medical, and kitchen areas.
- Ensure weapons and other security equipment are inspected and in good working condition.
- Supervise daily counts, review staffing needs, and recommend revisions to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
- Conduct investigations and serve as Officer‑in‑Charge (OIC) as required.
- High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma and two years and six months of experience as a Correctional Lieutenant;
- or two years of experience as a Correctional Lieutenant II;
- or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
- Must meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
- Pass a criminal background check.
- Produce a negative drug screening result.
- Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Adverse Weather Reporting: this position is designated as “Mandatory” and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.
$45,431 – $79,504.
