Correctional Lieutenant III (S) - Bertie Correctional Institution (Position #, Grade NC11)

About the Position

Assigned to Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor, NC; reports to Correctional Captain III. Responsible for supervising subordinate staff at a multi-level male correctional facility.

Responsibilities

Conduct shift line-up, assign duties and inspect all personnel for physical and mental readiness.

Maintain employee time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations and administrative forms.

Ensure all assigned equipment functions properly and perform daily inspections of offenders’ living areas, medical, kitchen and facility spaces to identify safety hazards and maintain smooth operations.

Identify training needs and coordinate delivery of training to subordinate staff.

Conduct investigations and searches of staff, visitors and offenders for contraband; respond to emergency situations as needed.

Serve as Officer-In-Charge (OIC) of the facility when the Correctional Captain is absent.

Qualifications

High School or GED diploma with three years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant or two years as a Correctional Sergeant III; or equivalent education/experience combination.
Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
Pass a criminal background check and a drug screening.
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
Documented experience with report writing.
Documented knowledge of prisons’ policy, procedures, or facility operations.
Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility.

This position is designated "Mandatory" and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

Salary and Compensation

Salary Grade Range: $45,431.00 – $79,504.00.
