** Description of Work
** This position will serve as an Advanced Level Vehicle Equipment Repair Technician (VERT). This is skilled mechanic work involving the service, repair, rebuild and diagnosis of a diverse number of mechanical systems for a large variety of gasoline and diesel powered automotive and heavy equipment. Work assignments vary in complexity depending on the type of mechanical system.

** Salary Grade and Salary Range:  NC10 / $41,655 - $72,897
** Management prefers applicants with the following:
*** Experience in Heating and A/C repairs including electronic and vacuum controls
* Experience in performing electrical/ electronic diagnostics and repair of complex wiring on two of the following: light, medium, heavy-duty trucks and heavy equipment
* Experience in performing hydraulic system diagnostics, repairs, and rebuilds on a variety of equipment
* Experience in the diagnostics and repair of powertrain components
* Experience in inventory management including parts, fuel, and lube commodities

Additional Expectations:

Employee is required to furnish a complete set of mechanics tools. Position requires work during any adverse weather such as snow and/or ice, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. which can lead to working extended daily hours, weekends, and holidays. Must have the ability to operate forklift and pick-up truck as needed.

The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date.  Either possession of a current Class A Commercial Driver's License with N endorsement on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver's License must be obtained through completion of an on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.  

Pre-employment drug testing required.  As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three (3) years of experience in the area of assignment, or a sufficient year- for-year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart

F.
