Youth Counselor (S) – NC08 – Grade NC08 – State of North Carolina. The Department of Public Safety is looking for a passionate individual who will work with court‑involved youth as part of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Division.

• Participate in child and family team meetings and other meetings with community partners to assist youth in transition.
• Work with the contracted behavioral health provider staff from New Hope to ensure coordination of services and care.
• Support implementation of each young person’s trauma‑responsive plan.
• Directly monitor and engage with youth during programming and activities.
• Monitor and supervise juveniles while housed, at school, and during all daily activities.
• Maintain a secure environment, routinely monitor and observe juveniles.
• Complete daily records, including documentation of safety violations, security breaches, activity briefings for shift personnel, crisis intervention events, behavioral problems/issues, and youth progress updates.
• Provide feedback to the treatment team on juveniles and communicate information regarding treatment plans to clients.
• Provide counseling and therapeutic intervention, serving as a member of a therapeutic treatment team.
• Utilize a range of counseling techniques and skills in crisis interventions.
• Implement individual and group treatment plans to effect behavioral changes.
• Administer scoring, interpret a variety of assessment tools to evaluate treatment progress, and review treatment strategies to achieve rehabilitation goals.
• Participate in the development of individual treatment, educational, vocational and community reintegration programs.
• Apply physical and mechanical restraints when necessary.
• Administer medication as required.

• Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution.
• Two years of experience working with a juvenile/family client population or related human services experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent development.
• Demonstrated experience with counseling skills.
• Demonstrated experience with crisis intervention techniques.
• Demonstrated experience working with minority groups.
• Demonstrated experience working with a multidisciplinary service team.

Full‑time position (40 hours per week). Shift work is required and may include weekends, holidays, and evenings. Shift premium of 10% applies to 2nd or 3rd shift. The Youth Counselor classification qualifies for the Nevada Step Pay Plan with salary steps as follows:

• Step 5: $53,017
• Step 6: $54,078
