The Johnston County Department of Social Services (JCDSS) provides mandatory and non-mandatory programs and services to citizens of Johnston County, including Child Protective Services, Foster Care, Adoptions, and a range of public assistance programs.
Social Work Supervisor III - Child Protective Services UnitThe supervisor will lead a CPS Investigator unit, ensuring that children under 18 are protected through investigation of abuse, neglect, and dependency allegations, and by coordinating services that support parents to provide nurturing environments.
Responsibilities- Assign CPS reports daily after review and ensure cases are initiated within required time frames.
- Monitor staff performance through weekly or as-needed case reviews, progress reports, conferences, informal discussions, and coaching sessions to maintain compliance with operational standards and policies.
- Review documentation and day sheets to ensure they are completed timely and in accordance with policy.
- Provide on-the-job training, arrange formal training when needed, assist with problem resolution, and ensure qualified services are provided.
- Offer input to higher-level management on administrative, personnel, and budget matters.
- Attend court hearings as required.
- Participate in emergency shelter operations when assigned, as part of the mandatory duties of DSS.
- Adapt work schedule as necessary to meet county operational needs.
- Master's degree in social work from an accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or a bachelor's degree in social work and three years of directly related experience.
- or a master's degree in a human services field, three years of directly related experience; or a bachelor's degree in a human services field, four years of directly related experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, five years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of casework supervision methods, social work principles, behavioral and socioeconomic problems, and relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing social work programs.
- Ability to supervise, train, and orient lower-level social workers, students, interns, or other staff.
- Clear communication skills and effective planning and execution of work.
- Strong policy background in Child Welfare and prior supervisory experience in a county department of social services.
- Extensive front-line experience in a county department of social services in North Carolina, preferably in Child Welfare.

- Preferred candidates will have completed mandatory Child Welfare training within the last three years.
- Prior to interview, applicants must bring the most recent annual performance evaluation.
