Overview
We are seeking a full-time Senior Technical Artist at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area to work on our golf projects. In this role, you will be responsible for working to create and optimize high fidelity content within the technical capabilities of hardware and software platforms in order to generate robust real-time and/or post-processed customer facing interactive products and features.
EssentialFunctions
- Capable of leading as well as mentoring/overseeing one or more developers and artists across one or more projects and multiple objectives
- Innovate, rapidly prototype, and collaborate with others regularly
- Work closely with designers,artists, and developers to deliver the vision within project requirements
- Develop tools and methods that improve and facilitate the art/dev team’s workflow
- Utilize 3d game engines, 3d modeling software, and Houdini to contribute to product development
- Establish graphic production pipelines
- Regularly communicatetechnicalconstraints and their reasons to the dev/creative teams
- Serve as point of contact for asset production/technicalissues
- Remain informed of newtechnical/ technological developments and apply them
- Drive optimization by setting standards, coordinating art/dev teams, and utilizing profiling tools
- Produce documentation on tools, methods, training, processes, and engine constraints for future reference and consultation
- Mentor/provide guidance to less experienced Technical Artists
- Maintain a culture of cost consciousness related to innovation activities
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Game Development, Computer Graphics or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience OR
a combination of relevant experience and education - Experience in technical art roles within a gaming, content or interactive industry
- Must have 1+ Shipped Title(s)
- Excellent applied knowledge of 3D graphics principles and real-time modeling techniques (shaders, P , normal map, displacement, etc.)
- Strong abilities in Shading, Lighting, and Optimization
- Excellent knowledge of 3D modelling software, 2D photo editing software (3D studio max, Houdini, Substance Designer, Painter, Photoshop)
- Excellent abilities in at least one major game engine (ex. Unity, Unreal Engine) and navigating their technical constraints on different platforms
- Experience usingasset management systems (ex: Git, Perforce, VSS, Alienbrain)
- Familiarity with Python, C++, C#, VEX, and/or Java Script
- Must be able to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision
- Proven ability to demonstrate ownership of project requirements within cross functional teams
- Ability to produce game engine ready assets from scratch including modeling, texturing, shading, and optimization
- Experience and passion with adjacent skills, ex. Modeling, Camera Systems, Environments, UI
- Intrinsically motivated to make innovative products/designs; a creative tinkerer in your free-time
- Entrepreneurial spirit with examples of launching NEW and innovative products and/or services
