About the job:
As a Software Development Engineer in Test (Emerging Careers) and a member of the Data Management team in the R&D division at SAS, you will join a friendly team with a broad range of experience, working alongside a tenured team to advance your career. Projects span technologies for data connectivity, data integration and data transformation.

Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain high-quality test automation using modern development techniques and provide data points to support metrics-based decisions.
  • Apply automated tests at every layer of the application stack, inside and outside of the continuous delivery pipeline.
  • Lead or perform effective exploratory testing and share your creativity.
  • Utilize observability and monitoring tools to proactively detect and remediate failures.
  • Communicate effectively within a technical team, collaborating with developers, product managers and support teams.
  • Participate in code reviews across product, test and infrastructure codebases to ensure quality and maintainability.
  • Adhere to and promote secure software development practices, following applicable security policies throughout the lifecycle.
  • Be encouraged to participate in open-source projects on behalf of SAS.
  • Embrace curiosity, passion, authenticity and accountability, reflecting SAS values in work.
Required qualifications
  • Two years of experience writing software applications, testing software, and/or general programming.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages:
    Java, JavaScript, Go or Python.
  • Experience developing and maintaining automated test scripts or frameworks for APIs, web applications, or similar.
  • Experience with bug management and source control systems such as Jira and Git.
  • Understanding of software development practices (source control, branching, code reviews).
  • Familiarity with web development (JavaScript/Typescript, React, theming, browser debugging) and web testing tools (Selenium, Robot Framework, Playwright).
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.
Additional competencies, knowledge and skills
  • Communication:
    Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Technology Savvy:
    Stay current with emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices, applying this knowledge to strengthen platforms.
  • Collaboration:

    Ability to work independently as part of a team while mentoring younger team members.
  • Experience with containerization, cloud architectures, and at least one major cloud provider technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Azure, GCP, AWS, etc.).
  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Delivery tools such as Git, Gerrit, Jenkins, Git Hub, Git Lab, or similar.
  • Familiarity with performance testing tools such as JMeter, Load Runner, Locust, or similar.
