Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Environment Outsource Lead to support, supervise, and scale asset production for major initiatives under the Epic Games x Disney Collaboration, based in Cary, North Carolina. The role bridges internal art leadership and external vendor partners, overseeing the creation of premium prop and architectural content and ensuring all externally produced assets meet Epic’s aesthetic and technical benchmarks.
Key Responsibilities- Align visual direction with internal Lead and Director-level stakeholders and codify it for external vendors.
- Provide frontline creative feedback and mentorship for all external asset submissions.
- Monitor vendor performance against milestones, raising risk issues to internal leadership.
- Build and package comprehensive brief kits for external partners, including photo references and technical constraints.
- Generate clean prototype meshes as structural guides.
- Maintain thorough documentation, including video support, poly‑count limits, and material setups.
- Collaborate across internal disciplines (Env Art, Level Design, Game Design, Technical Art, Production) to align gameplay and performance goals.
- Handle final technical polishing of external assets: naming, LODs, collision, materials, and game readiness.
- Integrate validated assets into the master branch using Unreal Engine 5 and Perforce, ensuring clean scene hierarchies.
- Proven AAA game shipping track record across PC, console, and/or mobile platforms.
- Hands‑on production artist experience in environment art, modular kit building, and texturing.
- Deep proficiency in Unreal Engine 5 pipelines and Perforce source control.
- Mastery of Substance Painter, Marmoset Toolbag, and major 3D DCC tools such as Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender.
- Strong understanding of real‑time performance constraints (poly budgets, draw calls, distances, P materials).
- Excellent communication skills for constructive remote critique.
- Highly organized, self‑driven, and capable of managing multiple pipelines in fast‑paced production.
- Comprehensive health coverage: studio‑paid medical, dental, and Vision HRA.
- Full long‑term disability and life insurance; generous 401(k) with company match.
- Access to Modern Health for confidential therapy, coaching, and mental health resources.
- Unlimited PTO and sick leave, company‑wide paid breaks and celebrations.
- 7‑year sabbatical after continuous employment.
