Primary FunctionUnder the direction of the Pastor, School Principal or other assigned manager, the employee is responsible for performing janitorial services and light maintenance in a parish, school, or other facility. The employee shall conduct himself or herself in a manner consistent with Catholic teachings and the call to ministry, “…Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received. (Eph.
4:1)”
- Support the Church’s spiritual and pastoral mission.
- Shall abide by Catholic principles in all professional and private aspects of life, demonstrating complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures.
- Develop a cleaning schedule to ensure the Church or school is clean and maintained in an orderly fashion.
- Perform general custodial duties, including cleaning and light maintenance of the parish or school facilities.
- Assist the grounds person on an “as needed” basis.
- Execute scheduled monthly, semi‑annual, or annual janitorial duties such as floor waxing, painting, window washing, carpet cleaning, as directed and in accordance with the maintenance schedule.
- Set up and clean facilities for all activities as directed.
- Maintain a supply of cleaning supplies and equipment; properly account for materials and equipment.
- Maintain the security of buildings, equipment, and tools.
- Comply with safety regulations as required; maintain a safe working environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requires coordination and manual dexterity; normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal maintenance environment.
Activities:
walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and climbing ladders.
- Working knowledge of and strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church; must be in full communion with the Catholic Church.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; excellent human relations and interpersonal skills.
- Exhibit courtesy toward fellow employees, parishioners, and the public.
- Self‑starter; well organized, able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Team player; punctuality is a must; ability to travel locally as required; weekend and overtime work may be required.
- Familiarity with computer technology.
- Ability to successfully pass a background, criminal history, and credit history check.
- Valid Arizona driver’s license.
- Ability to read directions and safety warnings; must be safety conscious.
- Knowledge, skills, and experience in handling janitorial equipment and maintenance tools.
- Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance.
- High school graduate or equivalent education.
- At least 1 year of experience in a commercial or private maintenance, janitorial, or similar position.
- Bi‑lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
