Contara is an e-commerce agency that works exclusively with subscription CPG brands in food, beverage, supplements, and health & wellness. We help brands convert and retain customers through Shopify optimization and Klaviyo-led retention marketing.

We're looking for a Retention Strategist to own one of our retention pods. This is a strategic role. You'll deeply understand each client's customers, lifecycle behavior, and what drives LTV, and make data-driven recommendations on what flows to optimize, what automations to build, and what campaigns to run. You'll own the full retention relationship for your clients, but your value goes beyond execution.

You're a trusted strategic partner who helps them grow customer lifetime value.

What You'll Do
  • Own client relationships - you're the primary point of contact and strategic advisor for retention
  • Deeply understand each client's customer lifecycle, cohort behavior, and what drives retention and churn
  • Make data-driven strategic recommendations on what to test and build to increase LTV
  • Build and optimize email/SMS flows, automations, and campaigns in Klaviyo
  • Analyze cohort performance and use that data to inform lifecycle strategy
  • Stay current on retention best practices, what's working in subscription CPG, and emerging tactics
  • Own A/B testing programs - hypothesis development, execution, and analysis
  • Build strategic recommendations around segmentation, personalization, and lifecycle triggers
  • Work with the design team on campaign creative briefs and feedback
  • Ensure client satisfaction and retention
  • Roll up your sleeves when needed - you're not above building a flow or writing campaign copy to get things done
What We're Looking For
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Klaviyo - building flows, managing campaigns, segmentation, reporting
  • Subscription or consumable product experience strongly preferred
  • Data-driven mindset - you use cohort analysis and metrics to inform strategy, not gut feel
  • Strategic mindset - you develop hypotheses, make recommendations, and drive LTV results
  • Strong client management skills - you know how to build trust and become a true partner
  • Deep interest in subscription CPG - you follow the industry and know what's working
  • Experience with A/B testing and lifecycle optimization programs
  • Familiarity with subscription platforms like Skio, ReCharge, or similar
  • Familiarity with tools like Slack, Linear, and Figma
  • Genuine passion for CPG brands and the subscription commerce space
  • AI-native mindset - you use tools like Claude to enhance your work, not replace your thinking
How You'll Work
  • Remote position
  • You'll report to the Head of Retention
  • You'll be on a pod with a Klaviyo Specialist and a Designer
  • We use Slack for communication (both internally and with clients), Linear for project management, and Figma for design
  • Fast-paced environment working with multiple subscription CPG clients

You're a strategist, not just an executor. You don't wait for clients to tell you what campaigns to run - you bring ideas to them. You understand their customers, their lifecycle stages, and their business well enough to make recommendations that move LTV. You're always learning what's working in retention so you can bring fresh thinking to your clients.

You're data-driven. You don't make strategic recommendations based on gut feel - you dig into cohort reports, understand what's driving retention and churn, and use data to guide decisions. You know which metrics actually matter for subscription businesses and you measure relentlessly.

You're an owner. You own outcomes, not just tasks. When something needs to happen, you make it happen - whether that means building the flow yourself, briefing the designer, or having a tough conversation with a client about their content calendar.

You're deeply curious. You're the kind of person who's always learning - not just during work hours, but because you genuinely enjoy getting better at your craft. You study what drives retention, follow industry trends, read case studies, and constantly sharpen your strategic thinking whether you're on the clock or not.

You care about the brands you're working with. Subscription CPG excites you - you get why retention matters, you understand the nuances of how customers buy consumable products, and you want to be part of helping great brands grow.
