Purpose Statement
The job of Education Support Specialist (JC607) is to assist in the supervision and instruction of students in special areas (e.g., severe physical, behavioral, cognitive, or vision disabilities; hearing screenings; language translation; preschool; middle school, etc.) under the supervision of assigned certified staff; observe and document student progress; provide special health care, social development, learning and language needs; and monitor progress for assigned certified staff.
This position reports to the Principal.
- Assist students with various disabilities under the direction of certified staff for specific learning and social development goals.
- Assist certified staff with the implementation and supervision of instructional activities for individual students and small groups (academic subjects, social/behavioral skills, daily living skills, writing, language, remediation, hearing and vision testing).
- Attend meetings and training sessions to receive and convey information relative to job functions and learning outcomes.
- Implement behavioral plans designed by IEP teams for students with behavior disorders or emotional conditions.
- Maintain instructional materials and confidential student files/records, ensuring compliance with District, state, and federal requirements.
- Monitor students in various activities (restrooms, playgrounds, halls, library, cafeteria, bus stops, assemblies, etc.) to model appropriate behavior and provide a safe learning environment.
- Perform hygiene procedures for students and maintain a sanitary environment.
- Assist in implementation of scheduled social activities, classroom learning activities, communication exercises, and physical and intellectual development.
- Respond to emergency situations and potential conflicts with students, de‑escalating behaviors and ensuring safety.
- Support behavioral plans for students with behavior disorders or emotional conditions.
- Transport students as directed by administrators, ensuring safe arrival at assigned locations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure effective functioning of the work unit.
- High school graduation or GED.
- Certificates & Licenses:
Highly qualified (for Education Support roles).
- Arrange setup for food items, supplies, serving lines, and equipment to meet cafeteria requirements.
- Clean utensils, equipment, and food service areas to maintain sanitary conditions.
- Collect payments and manage financial reimbursements for food service.
- Inspect food items and supplies for quality and compliance with health standards.
- Inventory food, condiments, and supplies to ensure availability.
- Monitor students’ food choices to meet nutritional requirements.
- Prepare and serve food and beverages to meet nutritional and meal requests.
- Report equipment malfunctions and maintain equipment safety.
- Respond to inquiries of students, staff, and parents regarding meals.
- Serve food items in accordance with nutritional mandates.
- Stock food, condiments, and supplies to maintain adequate quantities.
