Purpose StatementThe Education Support Specialist (JC607) assists in the supervision and instruction of students in special areas (e.g., severe physical, behavioral, cognitive or vision disabilities; hearing screenings; language translation; preschool; middle school). Under the supervision of certified staff, the specialist observes and documents student progress, provides special health care, social development, learning, and language needs, and offers progress monitoring.
This position reports to the Principal.
Essential Functions- Assist students with various disabilities under certified staff direction to support learning and social development.
- Assist certified staff with implementation and supervision of instructional activities for students and small groups.
- Attend meetings as requested (trainings, building meetings, district meetings).
- Implement behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or emotional conditions.
- Maintain instructional materials and confidential student files/records, ensuring compliance with District, state, and federal requirements.
- Monitor students across school activities to model appropriate behavior and provide a safe learning environment.
- Perform hygiene procedures to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
- Provide learning processes such as social activities, classroom learning activities, and communication exercises.
- Respond to emergency situations and potential conflicts with students, de‑escalating behaviors and ensuring safety.
- Support behavioral plans to assist students with special education needs.
- Transport students as directed by administrators.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
High school graduation or GED.
Certificates & LicensesHighly qualified.
