Job DescriptionPurpose Statement
The job of Education Support Specialist (JC607) is to assist in the supervision and instruction of students in special areas such as severe physical, behavioral, cognitive or vision disabilities, hearing screenings, language translation, and early childhood to middle school. The specialist observes and documents student progress, provides special health care, social development, learning and language support, and delivers progress monitoring to certified staff.
This role reports to the Principal.
Essential Functions- Assist students with various disabilities under the direction of certified staff, supporting learning, social development, and adaptive equipment use.
- Support certified staff in implementing instructional activities for individuals and small groups in academic and social/behavioral skills.
- Attend trainings, building and district meetings to receive and convey information related to the job Functions.
- Implement behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or emotional conditions.
- Maintain instructional materials and confidential student files, ensuring documentation and compliance with District, state and federal requirements.
- Monitor students in various settings (e.g., restrooms, playgrounds, classrooms) to model appropriate behavior and maintain a safe environment.
- Perform hygiene procedures and classroom activities to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
- Provide various learning processes, including scheduled social activities, communication exercises, and foundational learning support.
- Respond to emergencies and potential conflicts involving students, de‑escalating behaviors and ensuring safety.
- Support behavioral plans and transportation duties as directed by the administrator.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure effective functioning of the work unit.

Education: High school graduation or GED
Certificates & Licenses: Highly qualified
Payroll DetailsNCSD offers new classified employees previous experience credit for verified and approved experience:
- 0‑3 Years = Step 1 ($18.90)
- 4‑6 Years = Step 4 ($19.75)
- 7‑10 Years = Step 6 ($20.35)
- 11‑15 Years = Step 8 ($20.98)
