Substitute Teacher School Year Job Description
The job of Substitute-Certified Teacher is to enable each student to continue their education consistently and seamlessly in the absence of the regular teacher. Responsibilities include supervising students, implementing lesson plans, delivering group and individual instruction, collaborating with teachers and staff, and responding to inquiries from parents or guardians as directed by the building administrator. This is a temporary, non‑benefited position requiring availability for 4‑8 hours per day during the regular school year.
Substitutes may cover Classroom Teacher or Tutor positions.
- Attends required activities (e.g., trainings, meetings, professional development) to maintain and improve professional competence as a Substitute Teacher in compliance with program guidelines and objectives.
- Communicates with building administrators and Substitute Services managers to maintain confidentiality of students, staff, and parents in compliance with district and federal guidelines.
- Confers with building staff (e.g., grade‑level teachers, department group leaders, principals, school office staff) to receive clear direction regarding lesson plans and expectations for assigned areas.
- Implements plans and goals set forth by the regular classroom teacher to provide consistency in classroom management, routines, and a safe, positive learning environment.
- Maintains detailed documentation of classroom activity in the absence of the regular teacher, including material/lesson plans covered, deviations from teacher’s plans, and student attendance and behavior problems.
- Manages classroom structure and procedures (activities, behavioral expectations, positive classroom culture) to establish a positive, safe, orderly learning environment that supports students in achieving classroom and individual goals.
- Models positive behaviors to promote appropriate social and interpersonal behavior in alignment with district goals.
- Provides a written account of each day’s substituting activities for accurate and thorough records of substituting experience per Substitute Guidelines and district requirements.
- Reinforces a creative and positive classroom environment appropriate for the grade level to ensure a successful learning experience for all students.
- Remains on‑site during assigned hours to ensure adequate supervision of assigned students and availability for assigned staff support duties (e.g., bus, recess, lunchroom monitoring).
- Reports to building front office staff upon each assigned day’s arrival and departure to follow required check‑in/check‑out procedures for substitutes.
Education: High school graduation or GED
Certifications & License: Valid State of Wyoming Teaching License or Substitute Teaching Permit
Job Requirements- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
