NCSD offers new classified employees previous experience credit as follows for verified and approved experience:
- ESS – 7.0 hours/day, 175 days/year
- 0-3 Years = Step 1 ($18.90)
- 4-6 Years = Step 4 ($19.75)
- 7-10 Years = Step 6 ($20.35)

- ESP – 0.25 hours/day, 175 days/year

Purpose Statement
The job of Education Support Personnel (JC606/608) is to assist in the monitoring and instruction of students under the supervision of certified staff, including instruction of behavioral, academic, and social education students; observing; documenting progress; assisting in implementation of plans; and providing special health care support.
This position reports to the Administrative Manager or Principal.
- Adapts learning processes under the direction of certified staff to support all students at various learning levels and functional abilities.
- Assists certified staff with instruction of individual students and small groups across academic, social/behavioral, and daily living skills.
- Supports students with classroom and daily living skills to create a positive action plan addressing specific issues.
- Attends required meetings such as trainings, building, and district meetings.
- Implements learning processes to support student recovery as required.
- Maintains instructional materials and student files/records, ensuring accurate documentation.
- Monitors students in various settings to model appropriate behavior and provide a safe learning environment.
- Provides positive reinforcement to aid students in meeting plan objectives.
- Responds to emergency situations and conflicts to de‑escalate behaviors and ensure safety.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of the work unit.
Purpose Statement
The job of Education Support Specialist (JC607) is to assist in the supervision and instruction of students with severe physical, behavioral, cognitive, or visual disabilities; hearing screenings; language translation; and various developmental needs under the supervision of certified staff. The role includes observing and documenting progress, providing special health care, and monitoring student needs.
This position reports to the Principal.
- Assists students with various disabilities per certified staff direction, using adaptive equipment and assisting with toileting, diapering, tube feeding, etc.
- Supports certified staff with instruction of individual students and small groups across academics, social/behavioral skills, daily living, and language skills.
- Attends required meetings to convey and receive information about job functions and outcomes.
- Implements behavioral plans for students with behavior disorders or emotional conditions.
- Maintains instructional materials and confidential student records in compliance with legal requirements.
- Monitors students in various settings to model appropriate behavior and ensure a safe environment.
- Performs hygiene procedures and caretaking activities to maintain a sanitary environment.
- Provides learning processes supporting physical and intellectual development.
- Responds to emergencies and conflicts to de‑escalate and direct outcomes safely.
- Supports IEP team behavioral plans and transports students as directed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
