Summary:

The Director, Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment oversees the college’s efforts to promote teaching excellence and provide opportunities for continuous improvement and professional development, as well as assist with institutional and program assessment. The Director plans and coordinates professional development for college faculty and facilitates opportunities for learning.

Responsibilities:

The Director, Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment is responsible for providing leadership and support for instructional development. They will identify, develop, and oversee professional development programming including: new faculty orientation, the mentoring program, in-house training, guest speakers, and external events. The program Director will promote teaching excellence and best-practices by regularly meeting with faculty, as well as maintaining a space for collaboration, interdepartmental projects, and idea sharing.

They will assist with institutional and program assessment activities, and help faculty with assessment processes for continuous improvement of student learning.

  • Design and oversee the new faculty orientation and mentoring program, and provide ongoing support and education for new faculty.
  • Identify and implement internal and external professional development opportunities for faculty.
  • Plan and coordinate in-house professional development training, workshops, and collaborative meetings.
  • Manage a space for faculty to meet and exchange ideas.
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in teaching.
  • Collaborate with faculty, librarians, digital learning staff, and other experts to provide professional development opportunities to faculty.
  • Plan and facilitate return week educational programming for faculty.
  • Coordinate micro credentialing for college faculty and staff.
  • Develop learning communities for faculty and staff.
  • Assist faculty with interdepartmental collaboration and projects.
  • Advise and assist faculty with the development of instructional technologies and pedagogy for all teaching modalities.
  • Promote and assist with institutional, co-curricular, program, and course assessment processes.
  • Assist faculty with developing assignments/ artifacts for institutional, program, and course assessment.
  • Develop and maintain the departmental budget.
  • Use data to implement programs, trainings, and interventions to enhance student learning.
  • Maintain visibility and promote collaboration by providing outreach to faculty at various locations around campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience that includes curriculum design, instructional planning, student learning assessment, and the use of effective teaching practices.
  • Knowledge of current teaching best practices in higher education
  • Experience collaborating across multiple departments
  • A demonstrated commitment to professional development
Desired

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in education or closely related field
  • At least three years teaching at the collegiate level, preferably at a community college
  • Experience teaching professional adults
  • Experience mentoring faculty, providing professional development, and/or supporting continuous improvement in higher education teaching and learning
  • Knowledge and experience with Best Practices in Digital Learning in a higher education context
  • Experience working with non-credit entities such as Workforce Development and community partners
  • Experience and knowledge of AI and emerging technologies in higher education
Work Environment:

A typical work environment is an office setting requiring normal safety precautions. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors traveling between campus buildings in various weather conditions. Noise level is usually minimal. Work is usually performed during the normal workday however, early morning; late evening and weekend work may be required during periods of critical attendance to meet the peak periods related to position responsibilities.

Physical

Demands:

Employee is regularly required to sit and stand for long periods of time, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials and use computer, feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds may be required. Less frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required (office supplies, books, paper boxes, etc.). Visual requirements require close-up, distance, and ability to focus.
