About the job Department Head - Electrical Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Department Head Electrical Engineer to lead and manage electrical design projects within our organization. Reporting to the Office Manager, this role will work closely with Project Managers to ensure the successful execution of electrical systems for a wide range of building projects. The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer with a passion for mentorship, technical excellence, and delivering high-quality engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Mentor and guide electrical design staff, supporting their technical and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with the Office Manager to assign project teams and manage resource allocation.
  • Review and approve electrical project deliverables to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support staff development through training programs.
  • Represent the electrical team in client meetings and project interviews.

Technical Expertise

  • Lead the design of building electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and data/telecommunications.
  • Perform lighting calculations, circuit design, and electrical switch gear layouts.
  • Ensure all designs meet applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct system evaluations and feasibility studies to propose effective design solutions.

Project Oversight

  • Coordinate electrical efforts with multi-disciplinary teams throughout project life cycles.
  • Manage project schedules and budgets to meet performance goals.
  • Develop project proposals and fee estimates in collaboration with leadership.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients, ensuring their expectations are consistently met.

Business Development

  • Identify opportunities to expand electrical engineering services.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and build new industry connections to support firm growth.

Qualifications

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in electrical design, engineering, or project management.
  • Proficiency with electrical design software (Visual, Elum Tools) and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
