Field Engineer opportunity with Traylor Bros., Inc.
This opportunity is nationwide. You could start at an office location (IN, VA, LA, or CA) for up to six months or longer, then rotate to a project in another location.
Traylor Bros., Inc. (TBI) National Heavy Civil division provides comprehensive heavy civil/underground construction services across traditional and non-traditional delivery methods. TBI has completed more than 135 complex bridge construction and rehabilitation projects nationwide, including world-record cable-stayed structures and segmental bridges. The group has also worked with major port authorities and the maritime industry on deep-water container piers, wharfs, transit terminals, locks, and dams.

Position Summary:
Perform engineering duties in planning, designing, and overseeing construction of structures such as bridges, ports, dams, and underground systems.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.
- Estimate quantities and costs of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility.
- Plan and design structures, following construction and government standards, using design software and drawing tools.
- Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, and material stress factors to determine design specifications.
- Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety standards.
- Provide technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to managerial personnel.
- Assume additional responsibilities as directed by division and corporate management.
- Travel as required to attend meetings, site visits, training, etc.
Skills and Abilities:
- Using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Using mathematics and scientific rules/methods to solve problems.
- Effective verbal and written communication to convey information clearly.
- Ability to listen to and understand information presented through spoken words and sentences.
- Determining tools and equipment needed to do a job.
- Ability to work well in a non-structured environment.
- Demonstrate leadership to accomplish individual and team goals.
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel; database management;
AutoCAD.
Physical Requirements:
- Regular use of hands and fingers to handle, feel objects, tools, or operate controls; frequent standing, walking, and sitting; occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, construction equipment, high places, outdoor conditions, fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. Proper PPE and safeguards required. Noise level is usually moderate to high.
This position may assist in developing estimates, projections, schedules, and bid documentation for future work. Initial assignment could be at Traylor offices in Long Beach, CA;
Evansville, IN; or Alexandria, VA, before reassignment to an active project. The ideal candidate is flexible with locality, eager to learn, has strong work ethic, and meets the minimum requirements listed above.
