Job Overview
This position provides personal financial services at assigned military installations. The counselor delivers comprehensive personal financial counseling to service members and families, including one‑on‑one counseling, briefings, presentations, and referrals. Collaboration with installation and military branch points of contact and the use of virtual and in‑person communication modes as authorized are integral to the role.
Responsibilities- Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and their families.
- Assist service members in establishing a spending plan for extended absences.
- Develop and make available informational financial materials to service members and families.
- Coordinate, publicize, and deliver a wide variety of Personal Financial Management classes and workshops across the military lifecycle.
- Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
- Utilize virtual counseling or other electronic modes of communication, such as web‑based, secure online chat, or video‑based communication, as authorized by the OSD FINRED Program office.
- Manage duty‑to‑warn situations in accordance with Department of Defense protocol.
- Communicate with leadership and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information on trends and issues at assigned installations.
- Participate in regular in‑service training, quality‑improvement committees, and other contract activities as assigned or appropriate.
- Perform any other duties as reasonably assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required; an associate degree plus four years of relevant experience, or a high school diploma plus six years of relevant experience, may be considered.
- Minimum three years of financial counseling experience.
- U.S. citizenship and fluency in English required; bilingual English/Spanish required if the contract specifies.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
- Successful completion of the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
- Certification with Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).

Salary range: $58,440 to $93,500 annually, based on current national data. Actual pay may vary by location and is influenced by skills, experience, education, and other job‑related factors. The position may also be eligible for short‑term incentives and a comprehensive benefits package, including health, life, and voluntary benefits.
