Position: Director of Finance / Controller

Position Summary

Vistabeam is seeking a Director of Finance / Controller to lead our day-to-day accounting function and bring clarity, consistency, and experienced judgment to our financial foundation.

This hands-on leadership role is pivotal in building one integrated finance department out of two legacy organizations following our recent acquisition of Mountain West Technologies.

This role is designed for a “builder” who thrives in complexity, managing multi-state operations, active grant-funded infrastructure projects, and an ongoing merger integration.

You will have the direct opportunity to define how the finance function operates as we align systems, processes, and teams. This role brings the experience and judgment to solidify foundational work already underway and carry it forward.

What You’ll Own
  • Financial Operations: Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll administration (within GUSTO), and fixed asset management.
  • Reporting & Accuracy: Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Budgeting & Strategy: Lead annual budgeting and rolling forecasting processes to inform strategic executive decisions.
  • Asset & Revenue Management: Manage the financial life cycle of network capital investments (Cap Ex), including tracking and depreciation of communication towers and fiber assets.
  • Revenue Recognition: Expertly manage complexities concerning core subscription-based services and ASC 606 compliance.
  • Compliance & Audit: Coordinate external financial audits, grant audits, and regulatory filings (FCC, NECA, PUC, SBA).
  • Internal Controls: Establish and enforce proper access, oversight, and segregation of duties to safeguard company assets.
  • Team Leadership: Provide direct management, coaching, and professional development to accounting staff across multiple locations.
  • System Integration: Evaluate and improve accounting systems (MACC, Quick Books Online) to support a growing multi-entity operation.
What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications
  • CPA Designation: Highly preferred or required.
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong background in general ledger management, monthly close processes, and financial statement preparation.
  • Audit Coordination: Proven experience managing financial, compliance, or grant-related audits.
  • Residency: Based in or willing to relocate to Scottsbluff/Gering, NE or Casper, WY.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CMA, MBA, or Master’s in Accounting.
  • Experience with multi-entity or multi-location accounting and post-merger integration.
  • Familiarity with grant accounting, deferred revenue, and reimbursement-based funding (e.g., CPF Grants).
  • Experience with Quick Books Online, MACC, or similar ERP platforms in a telecommunications environment.
  • Telecom or Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) industry experience.
Benefits & Culture
  • A Company Doing Meaningful Work: Connecting rural communities to high-speed internet.
  • Autonomy: A collaborative leadership environment that values financial discipline and provides the autonomy to build the department’s future.

  • Financial Security: 401(k) retirement plan with company match and life insurance.
  • Work-Life Balance: Paid Time Off (PTO) and paid holidays.
  • Additional Perks: Cell phone reimbursement and a hard-working team that knows how to have a good laugh.
