Summary of Position:
The PACS Administrator is responsible for the day‑to‑day operation, optimization, and support of the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and related imaging informatics platforms. This role ensures reliable image availability, system performance, workflow efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Experience with
Intelerad PACS solutions is strongly preferred.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
PACS Administration & Support
- Administer, configure, and maintain PACS, with a focus on Intelerad (e.g., Intele
PACS, Intele Viewer) environments - Monitor system performance, storage, and image routing to ensure high availability and reliability
- Perform user account management, role‑based access, and security configuration
- Troubleshoot PACS‑related issues and serve as Tier 1–2 support for radiologists, technologists, and clinicians
Workflow & Integration
- Optimize imaging workflows across modalities (CT, MR, US, XR, NM, Mammo)
- Manage DICOM routing, prefetching, hanging protocols, and worklists
- Support and maintain integrations with RIS, EMR/EHR (e.g., Epic, Cerner), and vendor‑neutral archives (VNA)
- Coordinate testing and validation for system upgrades, patches, and new implementations
- Act as the primary liaison with Intelerad and other imaging vendors
- Coordinate issue escalation, service requests, and change management
- Participate in PACS upgrades, migrations, expansions, and new site deployments
- Support imaging informatics projects and workflow improvement initiatives
Compliance, Security & Quality
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, data privacy, and organizational security policies
- Support disaster recovery, downtime procedures, and business continuity planning
- Maintain system documentation, SOPs, and configuration records
- Assist with audits, quality assurance, and performance reporting
- Provide training and ongoing support to end users
- Develop user guides, quick reference materials, and best practices
- Collaborate with radiology leadership, IT, biomedical engineering, and clinical teams
JOB KNOWLEDGE &
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Healthcare Informatics, Radiologic Sciences, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience administering PACS in a healthcare environment
- Strong understanding of DICOM, HL7, imaging workflows, and radiology operations
- Experience supporting clinical users in a fast‑paced healthcare setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands‑on experience with Intelerad PACS solutions (Intele
PACS, Intele Viewer, or related products) - Experience with VNAs, cloud‑based PACS, or multi‑site imaging environments
- Familiarity with RIS/EHR integrations (e.g., Epic Radiant)
- Knowledge of Linux/Windows servers, networking fundamentals, and storage systems
- PACS Administrator, CIIP, or related certifications
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects
- Attention to detail and documentation
- Collaborative, service‑oriented mindset
- Hospital, imaging center, or enterprise healthcare environment
- May require on‑call support, after‑hours maintenance, or weekend upgrades
