Police Technology Support Specialist

The City of Casper Police Department is seeking a skilled and service-oriented Police Technology Support Specialist to support the critical technology systems that officers, dispatchers, and professional staff rely on every day. From troubleshooting hardware and software to coordinating technology projects and implementing innovative public safety solutions, this position plays a vital role in keeping mission-critical systems operating efficiently and securely.

If you enjoy solving complex technical challenges, managing technology Incumbent is responsible for providing advanced technical support to maintain and troubleshoot, Police Department technology including software applications, databases, systems, and related services. REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Receives general supervision from the Support Services Captain or higher-level management staff.

Typical Class Essential Duties

1. Provides advanced technical support to end-users by responding to questions regarding hardware and software malfunctions; trains users on application software, hardware, network, and internet use.

2. Supports all programs and operational activities relating to police technologies.

3. Coordinates technical support with internal IT Division and external vendors for installations, repair, and/or maintenance issues.

4. Provides coordination, guidance, and oversight of all phases of a technology project including initiation, planning, implementation, monitoring, and close-out with City employees, user representatives, and external vendors.

5. Plans, organizes, and defines project requirements, methods, and objectives in consultation with end users; performs risk assessments; develops concept documents, impact analyses, stakeholder analyses, and drafts process documentation.

6. Assists with the development of programs, policies, and procedures relating to police technologies; recommends and drafts policy and procedural changes as necessary.

7. Maintains technology equipment and supply inventories for the Police Department; prepares specifications for new police technology solutions as needed.

8. Optimizes efficient usage of departmental and interagency technologies that are critical for police operations.

9. Plans and directs the research, specifications, operation, service, and maintenance of police related technologies; provides recommendations to enhance the technical capabilities of department equipment and reduce operating costs.

10. Assists with budget preparation and administration for technology related expenses; prepares cost estimates and justifications for budget items; and monitors expenses to align with budget allocated.

11. Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives for special programs and projects relating to police technologies and initiatives.

12. Represents the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.

13. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

  • Computer back-up, file transfer, and restoration principles.
  • Data management theory, principles, and practices and their application to a wide variety of services and programs.

  • Applicable Federal, State, Local and City government codes, rules, and regulations relating to the various aspects of systems and database administration.

  • Customer service principles.
  • Modern office procedures, methods and use of technological equipment including database management and use of software applications.
  • Effective communication and organizational tools, modes, and methods.
