Job DescriptionSalary/Hourly Rate: The listed salary/hourly rate is a proposed increase that is pending Board approval in July 2026.
Hours: 7.0 hours per day for 188 days.
NCSD offers new classified employees previous experience credit as follows for verified and approved experience:
- 0-3 Years = Step 1 ($26.45)
- 4-6 Years = Step 4 ($27.87)
- 7-10 Years = Step 6 ($28.88)
- 11-15 Years = Step 8 ($29.92)

Purpose StatementThe job of Assistive Technologist‑Special Education (JC627) is to assist in assessment and recommendations on assistive technology in conjunction with professionals from various disciplines; provide technical support and training on specific technology equipment to students, families, staff, and related providers; coordinate evaluation, acquisition, testing, and installation of assistive devices and technology solutions; maintain inventory records; and serve as a resource to school personnel requiring assistance with assistive technology topics.
This job reports to the Director – Special Education Services.
Essential Functions- Adapts specialized assistive devices to individual student needs (e.g., keyboards, communication devices, software configuration, etc.) to enhance learning opportunities for special education students.
- Analyzes requirements of students needing assistive equipment to create and enhance user‑requested specialized programs and systems.
- Assesses students who may benefit from assistive technology to provide accommodations that improve academic success.
- Attends meetings (e.g., team meetings, professional development seminars) to share and receive information related to job functions.
- Collaborates with other team members on student needs assessment to ensure correct equipment for specific needs.
- Evaluates computer software and hardware for appropriateness and reliability to provide proper assistive technology.
- Maintains inventories of supplies and materials (e.g., assistive devices, adaptive software, cameras, keyboards) to ensure availability.
- Records documents, files, and records (e.g., site license information, usage logs, inventory) to provide up‑to‑date reference and audit trail.
- Prepares information (e.g., product evaluations, procedures, instructions) to document activities and convey information.
- Provides technical assistance and training to staff and students to ensure correct use of equipment.
- Repairs assistive devices, peripherals, and reinstalls software to maintain functional equipment.
- Researches work‑related topics (e.g., assistive devices, hardware, software, vendors) to stay informed on trends and recommend acquisitions.
- Serves as a resource to students and staff to provide the latest technology options and task analyses.
- Trains stakeholders (e.g., staff, students, parents) on proper use of equipment.
- Transports items (e.g., devices, equipment, building supplies) to provide materials in classrooms or for repair, modification, or replacement.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective operation of the work unit.
Community College and/or Vocational School degree with study in a job‑related area.
CertificationAssistive Technology or Assistive Technology Practitioner License.
Certificates & LicensesAssistive Technology or Assistive Technology Practitioner License; valid Driver's License and evidence of insurability.
