Westerman, Inc., an employee-owned company, is a multiple site manufacturer of production and storage equipment within the oil, gas, and nuclear industries.

Position location:

Casper, WY at our JW Williams facility (a company of Westerman, Inc.).

Employees are required to be on-site and work in the shop/yard. Successful candidates must live in Casper or within a reasonable commuting distance. Westerman, Inc. does not offer a relocation package, and all relocation expenses will be the candidate’s responsibility.

Summary

Westerman, Inc. seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator to safely transport materials using multiple pieces of equipment (frontend loaders, skid steers, and large capacity forklifts) throughout the yard and shops in the most productive and safe manner. Duties include operating equipment, securing loads, and maintaining a safe working environment.

Responsibilities
  • Safely operate heavy equipment up to 36,000 lbs capacity and serve as spotter for other operators.
  • Inventory and inspect rigging equipment for handling equipment (straps, slings, etc.).
  • Perform thorough daily pre-trip inspections and report concerns to management and maintenance department.
  • Safely load and unload multiple types of freight trucks (flatbed, enclosed trailer, stepdeck, low-boys, pickups, etc.).
  • Supply shops with requested materials.
  • Actively participate in identifying areas of opportunity and barriers for effective performance.
  • Participate in reconciliation activities to support the warehouse weekly cycle counting process.
  • Adhere to company’s policies & processes, including supply chain processes.
  • Work with the warehouse, shops, and other equipment operators to maintain yard cleanliness.
  • Collaborate with shipping clerk to plan for upcoming shipments and ensure accuracy when loading.
  • Support other equipment operators & departments with extreme workloads.
  • Communicate needs and status with warehouse team.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with acceptable MVR as determined by insurance carrier and company’s vehicle use policy.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant work experience with heavy equipment operation or heavy forklift operation.
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of extreme weather conditions.
  • Exceptional manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work extended hours, as required.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures used to control heavy equipment; strong safety record required.
  • Knowledge of production equipment and fabrication preferred.
  • Certification in forklift operation & rigging preferred.

Physical Demands / Work Environment
  • Be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time, up to entire shift length.
  • Exert moderate to heavy physical effort with lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong range of motion and ability to get in/out of equipment frequently.
  • Ability to sit, stand, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, bend.
  • Capable of seeing, speaking, hearing, and reading instructions and measuring devices.
  • Use fingers and hands to manipulate tools and small parts.
  • Walk over both even and uneven surfaces.
  • Work in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
  • Wear appropriate PPE including seatbelt.
  • Access all areas of the plant and grounds.
  • Work in tight quarters; close vision, depth perception, adjusting focus sometimes.
  • Lockout/tagout, fall protection, PPE, confined space training.
  • Driving is essential function of this position.
