POSITION SUMMARY

The RN Orthopedic/Neurology Coordinator works closely with physicians for the operating room, guides vendors to ensure correct equipment and supplies for cases, ensures cases are picked correctly, updates physician maps, and educates staff on new equipment, procedures and other changes.

This is a full‑time position, 40 hours per week, and includes participation in on‑call rotation.

CORE FUNCTIONS

Coordinates oversight of quality, risk management, safety and nursing standards, serving as a role model and resource person for quality patient care and maintaining clinical competency on the unit/department.

Determines and directs staffing needs on a shift‑to‑shift basis, facilitating staff‑to‑patient ratios in a fiscally responsible manner.

Coordinates, supports and facilitates continuity of care and communication between departments, institutions and across the continuum to ensure positive patient outcomes.

Assists in oversight of staff and patient workflow, facilitates interdepartmental teamwork, and assists in resource utilization for the department—including human, financial, equipment and supply resources.

Participates in the evaluation process by giving input.

Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes—timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care—and actively participates in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes.

In some roles, this position may supervise staff.

Coordinates daily workflow for the unit, confers with the supervisor on any unusual situations, assists with unit education, and enforces unit/department policy/procedures and standards of care. This role is facility specific and has no ultimate responsibility for budgetary outcomes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a current, valid RN license in the state of practice, a temporary RN license, or compact RN licensure valid for the current state. BLS certification is required. Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.

Experience in the clinical area for which the RN Orthopedic/Neurology Coordinator is applying is desired. Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area, demonstrated through annual validations. A minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting is required. Experience must include working in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.

PREFERRED

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Professional certification preferred.

Previous experience in a leadership role preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
