OverviewJoin the City of Casper’s Weed and Pest / Urban Forestry team and help keep our community safe, clean, and green! This seasonal Grounds Maintenance Technician position offers hands‑on outdoor work and the opportunity to make a visible impact throughout the city.
What You’ll Do- Picking up litter and maintaining public areas
- Mowing, weed‑eating, and caring for native grass areas
- Planting trees and assisting with watering, pruning, and minimal tree removal
- Supporting seasonal urban forestry and weed/pest control projects
- Fun, rewarding, and active seasonal work
- Hands‑on experience in urban forestry and grounds maintenance

Receives direction from higher‑level Parks and Recreation supervisory and management staff. Performs manual labor tasks per assigned work groups, including shoveling, snow blowing, snow making, watering, sweeping, weeding, mowing, ladder climbing, cleaning, litter pick‑up, and object lifting.
- Operate various handheld and light mechanical equipment (trim mowers, blowers, etc.)
- Perform daily inspections and safety checks at assigned facility
- Basic cleaning of spectator areas and hardscapes, empty trash, etc.
- Basic record keeping relating to grounds maintenance
- Assist with special outdoor projects as needed
- Represent the City of Casper by responding to the public in a courteous manner
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level
Knowledge (entry level):
- Customer service principles
- Basic health and sanitation standards
- Proper use of basic manual tools
Abilities (entry level):
- Work various shifts including weekends, nights, and holidays as needed
- Be flexible with changing assignments
- Follow written and verbal instructions
- Walk, dig trenches, climb ladders, and clean-up work sites in a neat fashion
- Safely operate and handle equipment and supplies
- Work around pesticides and in landscapes
- Communicate effectively
- Perform basic math
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance
- Follow all City safety rules and report incidents
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
Skills (entry level):
- Basic math
- Operate courteous, knowledgeable, and tactful manner with staff and public
Education & Experience:
- No previous training or experience required
- First Aid/CPR preferred
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- If less than 18, cannot operate motorized equipment on public roadways due to minor labor restrictions
Licensing &
Certifications:
- Possession of a valid Wyoming Driver’s License preferred
Typical duties include stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, lifting, and repetitive motions. Medium work may require lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, or 10 pounds constantly. Employees may walk, climb inclines or ladders, and perform manual labor such as raking and digging. Environmental exposures include dust, odors, chemicals, sun, heat, cold, moisture, and extreme weather conditions.
MinorLabor Restrictions
16 Years of Age
- Maximum hours per school day and non‑school day: 8 hours
- Maximum hours per school week and non‑school week: 40 hours
- Work hours:
5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on a school night; extended to 12:00 a.m. on non‑school nights - No driving on public roadways, even with a valid driver’s license
- May operate ATVs, golf carts, riding mowers, etc. on City grounds only (no public roadways)
- Must meet WARM driving criteria to operate ATVs, golf carts, riding mowers on City grounds
- May operate weed eaters, leaf blowers, and the like, but no other power‑driven equipment or tools
17 Years of Age
- Same hour restrictions as 16‑year‑old
- May operate weed eaters, leaf blowers, and the like, but no other power‑driven equipment or tools
- May operate ATVs, golf carts, riding mowers, etc. on City grounds only
- Must meet WARM driving criteria for City grounds…
