Positions available: 5

Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. before Memorial Day and after Labor Day

Hours (May 27th to August 30th): 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Memorial Day until Labor Day)

Join the City of Casper’s Weed and Pest / Urban Forestry team and help keep our community safe, clean, and green! This seasonal Grounds Maintenance Technician position offers hands‑on outdoor work and the opportunity to make a visible impact throughout the city.

What You’ll Do
  • Picking up litter and maintaining public areas
  • Mowing, weed eating, and caring for native grass areas
  • Planting trees and assisting with watering, pruning, and minimal tree removal
  • Supporting seasonal urban forestry and weed/pest control projects

Incumbents are responsible for performing tasks involved in the general maintenance of a seasonal operation primarily outside of a recreation facility with routine manual labor work.

Reporting Structure
  • Manual labor tasks per assigned work groups which may include: hand shoveling dirt and/or snow, snow blowing, snow making (if assigned to Hogadon Ski Area), watering, sweeping, weeding, mowing, ladder climbing, cleaning, litter pick‑up, trash collection, and object lifting and loading/unloading.
  • Operate various types of handheld and light mechanical equipment such as trim mowers, blowers, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Perform daily inspections and safety checks at assigned facility.
  • Perform basic cleaning of spectator areas and other hardscapes, emptying trash receptacles and debris management, stocking restrooms, and similar building maintenance tasks.
  • Perform basic record keeping relating to grounds maintenance.
  • Assist with work on special outdoor projects as needed.
  • Represent the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
  • Knowledge (position requirements at entry)
    • Customer service principles.
    • Basic principles of health and sanitation standards.
    • Proper use of basic manual tools.
    Abilities (position requirements at entry)
    • Work a variety of shifts including weekends, nights, and holidays as needed.
    • Be flexible with changing assignments.
    • Follow written and verbal instructions and direction.
    • Walk, dig trenches, climb ladders and clean‑up work sites in a neat and orderly fashion (if applicable to assignment).
    • Safely operate and handle equipment and supplies.
    • Work around pesticides and in landscapes.
    • Communicate effectively.
    • Learn general layout of facility to provide assistance to patrons.
    • Perform basic math when assigned.
    • Maintain a neat and professional appearance.

      Follow all City safety rules and procedures and immediately report all accidents/incidents or unsafe conditions to a supervisor.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
    Skills (position requirements at entry)
    • Basic math.
    • Operating in a courteous, knowledgeable and tactful manner with staff and general public.
    Education and Experience
    • No previous training or experience required.
    • First Aid/CPR preferred.
    • Must be at least 16 years of age. If less than 18 years of age, cannot operate motorized equipment on public roadways in accordance with minor labor restrictions.
    Licensing and Certifications
    • Possession of a valid Wyoming Driver’s License preferred.
