Grocery Clerk

Job Description

Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customers to return. Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals established for the department and monitor all established quality assurance standards. • Assist customers in discovering new items or products they inquire about.
• Inform customers of food specials and recommend grocery items to ensure they get what they want and need.
• Check product quality to ensure freshness; review "sell by" dates and take appropriate action.
• Provide customers with fresh and non-perishable grocery products that they have ordered.
• Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
• Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers; keep temperature logs.
• Know products sold within the department and be able to respond to questions and make suggestions.
• Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated.
• Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions; notify store management.
• Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying appropriate managers of items needing repair.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
• Work cooperatively in a high‑paced and sometimes stressful environment.
• Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.
• Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
• Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
• Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
