Job RoleAn Installation Laborer (often referred to as a Sign Crew Laborer or Traffic Control Laborer) provides the physical effort required to execute project plans on‑site. This is an entry‑level role that focuses on manual tasks, equipment setup, and site safety.
Work Schedule & Travel- Hours:
Typical work weeks range from 40–60 hours, with potential for more during peak project seasons. - Weekend Work:
Not typical but may be required based on project deadlines or emergency repairs. - Travel:
This role requires statewide travel (1–5 days per week) and overnight stays when necessary.
- Material Handling:
Loads, unloads, and moves building materials (signs, cones, barricades) and tools to appropriate on‑site locations. - Installation:
Assists in the physical installation of products, digging postholes by hand, operating jackhammer to install bases, using hand tools to build signs, assembling/setting up traffic control devices. - Traffic Control Support:
Distributes signs and markers in designated patterns and may act as a flagger to stop or direct traffic flow safely around the work crew.
- Age:
Must be at least 18 years old. - Driver’s License: A valid, clean driver’s license is required for traveling to job sites.
- Education:
High school diploma preferred but not strictly required for entry‑level labor positions.
- Manual labor, lifting, carrying, and pushing materials up to 50–90 lbs.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Tool proficiency: drills, saws, pneumatic post drivers, jackhammers.
- Dexterity for material handling and keeping worksites organized.
- Hazard awareness: alertness to moving traffic and equipment.
- Plan interpretation: ability to read project maps or blueprints.
- Communication: clear verbal communication for coordination.
- Reliability & punctuality for early starts.
- Teamwork: ability to take direction and collaborate under pressure.
