Utility Worker

The City of Casper is looking for a Utility Worker. This position offers a range of benefits including health, dental, vision, life insurance, pension, paid time off, and more. The schedule is Monday to Friday with an on-call rotation.

This position is responsible for maintenance activities such as installing, repairing, cleaning, and replacing curb stops, fire hydrants, valves, and repairs to water mains and service lines. It also involves driving and operating construction and maintenance equipment.

Incumbents are responsible for basic operation and maintenance activities for water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater systems, including the basic operation of standard light and heavy utility maintenance equipment and tools.

Reporting structure:
Receives general supervision from higher-level supervisory and management staff.

Key duties include performing assistive and/or basic utility maintenance duties, driving and operating construction and maintenance equipment, inspecting, cleaning, and repairing sewage and storm lifts stations, performing minor repairs on tools and equipment, and representing the City of Casper by responding to the public in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner.

Knowledge, abilities, and skills required include operation, maintenance, and repair requirements of tools and power-driven equipment, basic utility infrastructure and maintenance practices and procedures, safe work practices, and effective communication skills.

Education and experience requirements vary for Utility Worker I and Utility Worker II. For Utility Worker I, a high school diploma or equivalent and minimum of one year experience performing maintenance work involving the operation of light and medium size equipment and hand and power tools preferred is required. For Utility Worker II, a high school diploma or equivalent and minimum of two years of increasingly responsible experience performing water, wastewater, or stormwater system installation, maintenance, and repair duties is required.

Physical and environmental conditions include stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Medium work:
Exerting up to 90 pounds of force using jackhammers occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work requires the use of personal protective equipment including hard hats, eye protection, hearing protectors, gloves, safety vests, and safety shoes.

OSHA mandated preventative vaccinations and periodic examinations for work exposures are provided.
