Underground Fiber Construction Operator

Visionary Communications is seeking an Underground Fiber Construction Operator to build and maintain underground fiber networks serving rural and underserved communities. In this field-based role, you will safely operate excavators, trenchers, and directional drills; install conduit and fiber; and restore job sites to standards. You'll read construction plans, locate existing utilities, and follow traffic-control and safety procedures. Collaborating closely with field and network teams, you'll help deliver reliable broadband while documenting work, inspecting equipment, and supporting timely, high-quality builds.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators, trenchers, and directional drills for underground fiber construction
• Install conduit, handholes, and fiber according to plans and specifications
• Locate and pothole existing utilities to prevent damage
• Follow all safety, traffic-control, and OSHA requirements on active jobsites
• Read and interpret construction drawings, maps, and locate tickets
• Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on construction equipment
• Restore jobsites, including back filling, compaction, and surface repair
• Document work performed using mobile or digital tools and submit daily reports
• Coordinate with field supervisors, network, and permitting teams to meet schedules
• Communicate professionally with customers, landowners, and the public as needed
