The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is committed to providing a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the people of Wyoming. We are currently seeking a Highway Maintenance Technician for our Maintenance Program located in Casper, Wyoming.
As a Highway Maintenance Technician, you will perform a variety of roadway maintenance duties under limited supervision to help keep Wyoming’s transportation system safe and reliable for the traveling public.

- Maintains and operates complex equipment safely and proficiently.
- Assists with training other technicians in operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Under limited supervision, flags traffic and sets up traffic control devices.
- Operates heavy equipment including single and tandem axle trucks, auger trucks, aerial lift, plows, wing plows, sanders, and chemical systems to remove snow and ice from roadway surfaces.
- Responsible for the rehabilitation of roadway surfaces and traffic control devices such as signs and pavement markings.
- Responsible for general maintenance of highway‑related facilities such as rest areas; may include water and wastewater treatment per EPA and DEQ requirements.
- Attends and completes all state and federal training required to obtain/maintain certifications, perform inspections, and learn new skills.
- Communicates information to update others' status and process effectiveness.
- Utilizes computers for agency practices such as training and performance evaluations.
- Performs duties involved in removing snow and ice from roadways; determines effectiveness of treatments and may adjust treatments as necessary.
- Adheres to all state and federal safety and quality standards, including correct use of all associated personal protective equipment.
- Preference may be given to applicants who possess a current Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements prior to employment.
- Must have the ability to obtain water certifications if necessary.
- Must have the ability to obtain a Certification to operate specified equipment as directed by WYDOT.
- Must have the ability to obtain a Certificate of course completion in Defensive Driving.
- Must have the ability to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification.
- Must have the ability to obtain a Flagger certification.

- State and federal highway safety standards and traffic control procedures.
- Equipment maintenance and repair procedures.
- Hazardous materials response procedures.
- Federal and state requirements for the proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Basic equipment operation for single and tandem axle trucks, loaders, and tractors.
- Safe work procedures, First Aid and CPR, and OSHA Safety Data Sheets for chemicals used in maintenance activities.
- Basic office equipment knowledge such as computers, calculators, and telephones.
Education & Experience Substitution
- 2‑4 years of relevant work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction).
