Job Description

This job post is for eight (7) - 7.00 hours/day, 175-day Bus Driver positions

The benefited position begins August 31, 2026, but successful candidates can be hired earlier as a non-benefitted Substitute Bus Driver to train (7 hours/day, 5 days/week) before the benefited position starts.

$1,500 signing bonus available upon the completion of the following milestones:

  • $500 after successfully obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Air Brakes, School Bus and Passenger Endorsement, and 1 month driving after the completion of obtaining full certification and benefited start date.
  • $500 after 6 months after benefited start date.
  • $500 after 12 months after benefited start date.

Purpose Statement

The job of Bus Driver (JC801/805/834/835) is done for the purpose/s of transporting students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions; ensuring vehicle operation is in safe operating condition; and ensuring safety of students before, during, and after transport, loading and unloading from buses.

This job reports to the Assistant Director of Transportation Services

Essential Functions

  • Administers first aid (administers medications for special needs students) for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs.
  • Advises students of appropriate behavior for the purpose of reinforcing regulations and maintaining passenger safety.
  • Assists students and other passengers for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations.
  • Attends meetings and training for the purpose of maintaining skills and meeting the certificate requirements of a school bus driver.
  • Cleans interior and exterior of school buses (e.g. power wash mop, scrubbing bus floors and surfaces on hands and knees, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining vehicle in a safe and sanitary condition.
  • Completes required mountain training successfully to safely transporting students up and down different road grades or mountains for the purpose of transporting students and maintaining passenger safety.
  • Conducts emergency evacuation drills for the purpose of ensuring efficiency of procedures and complying with mandated requirements.
  • Drives school bus/es for the purpose of transporting passengers over scheduled routes to and from school and/or field and activity trips in a safe and timely manner.
  • Informs other school personnel and parents of events, policies, and/or practices (e.g. scheduled stops, established routes, route conditions, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or clarification of procedures.
  • Maintains strict (or complete) confidentiality on personnel and student issues (e.g. personnel records, medical records, surveillance videos and images, student data, confidential communication, etc.) for the purpose of protecting personal information for staff and students.
  • Obeys all traffic laws for the purpose of adhering to federal and state regulations.
  • Perform basic, computer and software operations (e.g. timecards, work orders, compliance training, etc.) for the purpose of completing transportation and district requirements.
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g. fuel is full, oil and water fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and complying with mandated guidelines.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. field trip reports, incident reports, inspection records, passenger misconduct, mileage logs, student counts, routing information, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Removes snow from buses for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment.
  • Reports observations and/or incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel.
  • Responds to inquiries (e.g. students, parents, other school personnel, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.
  • Supervises students and other passengers during transit for the purpose of maintaining safety and following district policy.

Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Education: High school graduation or GED

Certificates & Licenses: Valid Driver’s License and ability to obtain CDL license with Bus Endorsement, S&P Endorsements and Air Brake Endorsement & Evidence of Insurability
