Universal Banker – Summary and Objectives
The Universal Banker serves as a full‑service, single point of contact in the branch for South State customers’ financial needs. The position operates as both a Teller and FSR, providing exceptional service in transactional and account‑management contexts. The role seeks to attract, expand, and retain customer relationships while contributing to the bank’s financial growth.
Key Responsibilities – Essential Functions- Serve customers quickly, accurately, efficiently, and confidentially in accordance with South State Bank Service Standards.
- Understand and communicate the bank’s products and services, including features, benefits, pricing, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify customer needs and expectations by listening for clues and seek opportunities to expand relationships through referrals.
- Maintain a professional personal appearance in accordance with bank policy.
- Ensure compliance with all banking regulations, including Regulation CC, the Bank Secrecy Act, and branch security and audit procedures.
- Develop proficiency with customer‑facing technology and enroll customers in self‑service options.
– Specific Duties Teller Duties
- Process transactions for savings, checking, and loan accounts.
- Maintain a neat, orderly work area.
- Assist, guide, and train new tellers as needed.
- Allow customers access to safe‑deposit boxes.
- Cash checks and process savings withdrawals within limits and prescribed procedures.
- Sell certified checks.
- Balance daily transactions.
- Service/balance ATM and utilize the branch capture system.
- Open new deposit accounts and explain available products and financial services.
- Handle stop payments, wire transfers, and other maintenance functions within assigned limits.
- Explain policies and procedures to customers, acknowledging potential unfamiliarity.
- Resolve customer problems and complaints with courtesy and discretion.
- Direct difficult problems to appropriate resources and view them as opportunities to satisfy the customer.
- Sustain knowledge of the bank’s financial services and show sincere appreciation for each customer’s time.
- Provide business cards to customers when appropriate.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of teller or cash handling experience.
- Six months of customer‑relationship building or sales experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in Teller II and basic FSR job functions.
- Good interpersonal, computer, reading, writing, speaking, and English‑language skills.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, sit for long periods, and access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, reports, and cash denominations.
Work EnvironmentOpen lobby area with an individual workstation inside a climate‑controlled facility, with access to a break room or restroom during breaks.
TravelTravel may be required for meetings or training as needed.
Salary and CompensationColorado salary range: $37,579.00–$56,369.00, with final offers based on skills, experience, and education.
